Government Agents at Your Door

Over the past couple of months there have been several reports of agents of the BATF coming to private homes and asking individuals to verify their firearms purchases and/or to surrender legally purchased firearms related items. While these "visits" by the BATF are a recent concern; government targeting of lawful firearms owners and individuals in the survival and preparedness communities is nothing new.

We previously wrote about the government calling survivalists and preppers "Homegrown Violent Extremists" https://cascadiasurvivalist.blogspot.com/2022/07/govt-calls-survivalists-and-preppers.html and surveillance of civilian communities by military anti-terrorism officers.  (Google, JBLM POLICE CORRUPTION INDYBAY to see multiple articles detailing unlawful surveillance of the civilian community by military anti-terrorism in the PNW.)

We pointed out that you can't necessarily trust the government or law enforcement https://cascadiasurvivalist.blogspot.com/2022/04/dont-necessarily-trust-government-or.html

Washington Gun Law attorney William Kirk posted a video discussing what to do if agents of the BATF come to your home asking questions about your firearms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHDZevpt8ek

A couple of short books provide information on dealing with the police and government agents, and are important reading for any firearms owner, survivalist, prepper, or patriot.

Dealing with Police and Government Agents: What to Do If You Become a Target of Government Surveillance and Police Harassment https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5KQKWT3

Security Culture: A Guide to Staying Safe for Survivalists, Preppers, and Patriots https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2X6CCDS

Our growing concern is with government over-reach and harassment of law abiding citizens who question misconduct by government agents (although this is certainly nothing new). Take the time to understand your legal right, and discuss with your friends and family how to appropriately deal with contact and questions from government agents.

Remember...

“Any lawyer worth his salt will tell the suspect in no uncertain terms to make no statement to police under any circumstances.”
(U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson writing in Watts v. Indiana, 338 U.S. 49 (1949))
