History Channel had a series called 'Doomsday: 10 Ways the World Will End'.  Full episodes are available on YouTube. While these shows can be entertaining, they are worst case - low probability, and often completely fictional, scenarios (Aliens Invade Earth). Still, some in the "prepper community" are preparing for just these types of scenarios. Cascadia Survivalist hopes that you enjoy watching these shows, but encourages you to focus your preparedness efforts on more likely real-world disasters.

EMP is a low-probability threat, but one with potentially high consequences should it occur. There is a common misconception that a microwave oven is a Faraday cage. It is not. Not even a close approximation. Go in your kitchen and open the door of your microwave. Look at the mating surfaces between the door and oven. There is no bare conductive metal at all, usually power coated sheet metal or plastic on both surfaces.
